Earth Hour 2011:REACH Fun Run, Albay Celebration
March 26, 2011- Earth Hour 2011 , where people across the nations “switched-off” their lights-8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.- to help lessen contribution of the carbon to planet Earth which is the primarily factor of global warming.
Being one of the provinces who are green advocates, Albay joined the celebration of Earth Hour through a 5k Fun Run which started at Bicol University oval track to LCC Metro, Legazpi City.
When runners have reached the finish line, they were given a candle for the candle lightning ceremony that formed the word “MAYON” which is referring to Mt. Mayon-Albay’s pride tourist spot.
The Fun Run started at exactly 8:30 p.m., during the “switched-off” of lights. At around 9:30 p.m., candle lightning followed with the music “Paraiso” by smokey Mountains. After which was the awarding ceremony of the winners.
Real celebration of Earth Hour 2011 in Albay wasn’t the Fun Run nor the candle lightning rather it was in every household who supported the event and turned off their lights during the said hour.
